The Republican National Committee’s health insurance plan covers elective abortion – a procedure the party’s own platform calls “a fundamental assault on innocent human life.”
Federal Election Commission Records show the RNC purchases its insurance from Cigna. Two sales agents for the company said that the RNC’s policy covers elective abortion....

You mean the RNC's health care DID cover abortions. That's no longer the case. While a bit disturbing that they originally did not opt out, it is good to see they are changing their policies properly.
According to the article you linked, "The Republican National Committee will no longer offer employees an insurance plan that covers abortion after POLITICO reported Thursday that the anti-abortion RNC's policy has covered the procedure since 1991.
'Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose,' Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement.'I don't know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled.'"
This actually gives me more confidence in the GOP. I see them being honest now about their policies even if it reveals past mistakes. This is the way to go.

I sincerely hope the GOP decides to read their health care plan, as well as other issues, before it goes public next time. As stated, the abortion issue was in before it was out. Hopefully, the GOP plan is read more 'intently' than the Democratic Health Care plan by many in Congress.
We should not wait to bring issues up. To use an old phrase, 'Lead, Follow, or Get out of the Way'. Responding does nothing for many of the electorate if nothing is offered as an alternative to the public.

Yes, originally that was my thought, that it dealt with their new health care bill being proposed. However, we are talking about the actual health insurance plan used by RNC employees since 1991. If it was the actual bill, then yes, there would certainly be a lot more blame to go around for the RNC, but in this case, it was merely a case of bad policy since 1991 and nobody noticing to change it until now.
